Egypt
In my line of work, a mid-20s wanderer, you keep a keen ear to the voice of God that calls for travel. A few months back I heard that voice and it said “Arab World”. Usually I would be calling everyone and telling them about my next great adventure but this was different. God wasn’t calling me to go have a good time somewhere or to relish in a cultural opportunity, He was calling me to abandon myself as I knew it and give my life to a people.
It’s not like I didn’t see it coming. Ever since I was a kid I have known that God has called me to the continent of Africa and that I would live there for a period of time, maybe forever. I knew that missions through evangelism, social programs and plain-old life was my call. Like Jonah, the guy who lived in a fish, I too decided I could hide from the all seeing eye of God. So I hid out in Cleveland for a while, because certainly God isn’t there, only to be found out while praying in my bedroom one day.
So, I’m moved to Egypt.
I was there for 3 months exploring a call to missions and learning more about who Jesus is and wants to be in my life. I worked alongside the Arch-Bishop of the Anglican Church there and specifically with his chaplain and my dear friend Rev. Drew.
I learned more in three months than I could begin to describe in one page. I met some of the most amazing people on the planet and am proud to call them my friends. I encountered Islam, scratched the surface of how the Church operates under persecution, drank deeply from the well of Middle Eastern culture and saw incredible sights.
It was the trip of a lifetime and I am so grateful to everyone who supported me as I wrestled out God’s call for my life. The wrestle isn’t hardly over as I am right in the thick of the fight, to learn more check out my page called “mozambique”
here’s to the journey.
