About Me
my name is chris.
I currently live, work and play in a little town called Cleveland, Tennessee where I’ve gone to college for the past decade or so. Living in the small town of Cleveland has been one of the most formative periods of my life. I’ve lived fully, loved deeply and made some incredible memories. As Henry David Thoreau said,
“I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately, I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life. To put to rout all that was not life and not when I had come to die, discover that I had not lived.”
In my life I have traveled throughout the US, 33 states I believe, and around the world. I’ve met the poor across the ocean and right across the street, I’ve dined with the wealthy and spent time with the culturally elite. I’ve gone fishing with a hand-line in Fiji, grew up flounder gigging in Northeastern North Carolina and still try to wet a line with my dad on occasion. I’ve been too poor to afford Ramen Noodles and squandered money on expensive wine and good cigars. I owned a small business, went to class and tried to keep my head on straight. I joined a fraternity and then a sorority, fell in love with a girl and then she moved away. I lost 100lbs, ran a half marathon and dream of doing a full when I know I won’t die of a heart attack.
I like talking to people and hearing who they are and where they’ve come from. I don’t care much for small talk and I may seem rude or disinterested if you try that. I read a lot and some of my favorite authors are Brennan Manning, Henri Nouwen and Gary Paulsen (he wrote The Hatchet). I really enjoy music and have been known to sing on occasion but I mostly listen. I love my friends and believe in them, I wouldn’t call them friends if I didn’t. I like movies, time in the great outdoors and being alone.
More than any of this, I am completely in love with Jesus Christ. I know for some of you that’s an odd statement, how can you be in love with a dead guy? No necrophilia here. Jesus isn’t just a guy and he most certainly isn’t dead. He’s the incarnate God, meaning He’s God and Man, He died on the cross and rose from the dead. He’s coming again one day and I look forward to seeing Him. I live in an intense love affair with God and am devoted to Him above all others. This devotion has made me into a wandering prophet that probably won’t fit into any category you can think of. I’m not liberal or conservative, calvin or wesley, protestant or catholic. I’m just a guy being led by Holy Spirit into the fullness of life.
